About This Project

CITIZENS FOR THE RIGHTS OF THE ARTS

The soccer ball concept was conceived by Francisco Toledo as a means to support art spaces and at the same time to help the prisoners of the Central Penitentiary of Santa Maria Ixcotel.  The idea behind the ball is to have the prisoners manufacture the balls and to invite an artist or designer to create a unique piece of art using the ball as the canvas.

The project has introduced better pay for the prisoners while creating a unique artistic piece of work. To launch the ball, Toldeo invited Jerónimo López Ramírez (Dr. Lakra) to design the first ball, followed by Sergio Hernandez, Guillermo Olguin, George Mead Moore, Chanok and Toledo himself.

These balls will be part of SMART 2015 and 100% of all sales will benefit Citizens for the Rights of the Arts.  Included in the cost of each SMART reservation is a limited edition ball by Chanok.
